What Shaped My Work

ABOUT ME

Amanda Davies

I’m Amanda Davies, a Registered Psychologist, Fellow of the Association for Coaching, and Founder of the Psychodynamic Coaching Institute, and I’ve spent more than two decades working at the intersection of psychology, coaching and human transformation. After a career in corporate psychology and leadership, I left in 2015 to build my own body of work, whilst pioneering a depth-based approach to coaching. My work spans Jungian shadow work, business coaching, identity, power and the deeper forces that shape who we become. Today, I work with women, leaders and practitioners through private coaching, education and a growing body of work in feminine psychology and shadow work.

WHAT I
STAND FOR

The PATTERN
is Never the Real Problem

What we see is often only the surface expression of something deeper. I’m interested in what sits beneath the presenting problem - the subconscious, somatic intelligence, and hidden dynamics that keep the pattern in place.

Self IMPROVEMENT
Isn’t the Answer

Most self-improvement teaches you to change what’s on the surface such as your thoughts, habits & behaviours. Deeper work is about understanding and integrating the parts of yourself you’ve learned to leave out.

Your OWN Life Over
the Life You Inherited

We all inherit ideas about who we are supposed to be and the roles we are supposed to play. Becoming yourself means deciding what stays and what ends with you. The life you inherited can shape you without having to define you.

Philosophy

I believe the parts of ourselves we most want to change are often carrying something very, very important.

The pattern, the defence, the ambition, the perfectionism, the anger, the need to please… these things didn’t appear out of nowhere. They often helped us navigate something, belong somewhere, protect something or become someone.

This is the premise behind so much of my work, in particular my signature Shadow Medicine program: we must learn to recover and listen to those parts of us that were edited out.

The work is not about “polishing up” or “getting rid of” the parts of yourself you don’t like. It’s about understanding them well enough to reclaim the wisdom they contain and bring these parts back into the whole.
